Wier & Pouce

Wier and Pouce. From Page 128...

He could hardly taste them or feel them in his mouth, but knew he had to be careful moving his tongue. They had moved in for a reason, the he didn't know yet what it was. Something happened whenever he and E. Pouce were thrown together, some turn of events, perhaps already turning, for which he became responsible. E. Pouce was dangerous. He'd always heard him called E., never by name, and as far as Dusty was concerned E. stood for Enemy. So he nurtured this metamorphosis in his mouth. It had originated in the sacrament of a fish, and he knew that in the stories of Atlantic tribes like the Micmac and the Arawak fish meant clairvoyance. Something would soon come clear. He stood up. Through the lavender haze the dancers on the patio looked like they moved behind the wall of an aquarium. He waved to catch Abby's eye, and indicated he was crossing to the house.
