Cheyenne River Wild Track • 1973, Ithaca House; Ithaca NY
Cheyenne River Wild Track.
we use the light of South Dakota
making movies on the Cheyenne River
Sioux Reservation
to make visible
what was never there
a chemical change
on a piece of celluloid and what never
happened anywhere appears as permanent
as a tattoo
when it's all 'in the can'
we leave
what we have made will be
invisible in sunlight
it falls through
clouds like a show of brass on the hills
at every horizon
what we brought
we take away
this product is visible
by means of a beam of artificial light
projected through these strips of
celluloid moving at a rate of twenty-
four frames per second
when the movie
people leave what happened among them
bummers hassles affairs indigestion
disappear
as a dream does
when the sleeper
wakes up
